Have you ever seen Singapore’s largest plate of chicken rice?

ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre in Queenstown Estate set the record for Singapore’s largest plate of chicken rice recently.

The event was the opening ceremony of The Great Queenstown HawkerFest on 18 Nov, where a massive plate of chicken rice marked the commencement of Queenstown HawkerFest, a month-long celebration in honour of the estate’s 70th birthday.

The celebration at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre was officially launched by Mr Eric Chua, the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Social and Family Development and Adviser to Tanjong Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations (Queenstown).

The Queenstown HawkerFest ends on Dec 17, 2023.

WHAT’S IN THE PLATE OF CHICKEN RICE

The highlight of the Great QT Hawker Feast was that Queenstown secured a record for Singapore’s largest Plate of Chicken Rice.
The plate, measuring 1.3m, served approximately 0.83m of chicken rice made and assembled by Tong Fong Fatt Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice. The feat was officiated by Mr Ong Eng Huat from the Singapore Book of Records.

In an effort to reduce food waste and give a show worthy of such a grand celebration, Singaporean competitive eater Zermatt Neo stepped onto the stage and devoured the entire plate of chicken rice in only 30 minutes.

His segment, which began at 11.30 a.m. until noon, had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they watched him gobble down about 30 servings of chicken rice.

At the final segment of the event, attendees were invited to participate in Queenstown’s first Speed-Eating Challenge. Participants engaged in a competition against each other to consume one plate of chicken rice as fast as possible for a chance to win $250 worth of vouchers.

The challenge took place in three sessions and had 30 participants in total with 10 individuals per session. The fastest eater, out of the three winners, finished his plate of chicken rice in an astounding 44 seconds.

In a heartfelt gesture to extend the festive spirit, Queenstown collaborated with Singapore Pools to distribute 700 packets of chicken rice to the less fortunate families around the estate over two weeks from Nov 20 to Dec 1, 2023.
