After being left in suspense for months, Marvel finally released the WandaVision Disney+ series on 15 January 2021. The characters Wanda and Vision were only introduced in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.This was a chance for fans to get to know the characters of the series on a deeper level. The WandaVision series covers more than just their relationship, but it also shows Wanda’s character development and how she evolved to become The Scarlet Witch.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Vision was killed by Thanos. As a Marvel fan, I was saddened that that was the case as we witnessed Wanda and Vision’s first kiss, yet we barely had any time to see their relationship grow. Luckily, in the WandaVision series, Wanda created another version of Vision. This gave us a chance to understand the journey and growth of their relationship. On top of that, the thing that left most of us in awe was the fact that Wanda was also powerful enough to create a huge neighbourhood with actual people in it, WestView.
Most of us know her as the avenger with the magic hands. However, everyone except Agatha Harkness, was unaware of Wanda’s potential powers. Agatha, the villain of the series, revealed that she was the mastermind who had manipulated Wanda to create WestView, breaking into a catchy song in the process.
When she revealed herself, Agatha made Wanda relive the dark days in her childhood as well as the day HYDRA, a terrorist organisation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, turned her into a human weapon. As Wanda was going through her nightmare, we were all able to witness the key points in her life that would help her transform into “The Scarlet Witch” later in the series. Wanda Maximoff got her powers from the mind stone itself, which has made her one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Throughout the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wanda’s powers have revolved primarily around telekinesis. Little did we know that she is much more than that. The powers that she received from the mind stone made her a very powerful sorceress and we learnt all of this from Agatha Harkness.
The series ends with Wanda alone in a cottage, but with a twist. In the last scene, the seemingly harmless and less evolved Wanda Maximoff was wearing sweatpants, drinking tea on her front doorstep. The powerful Scarlet Witch, on the other hand, was in a room, levitating in mid-air while reading The Book Of The Damned. I’m sure I speak for all Marvel fans when I say I cannot wait to see what else is in store for The Scarlet Witch.
